Twist!

What made you start working in your craft? Was it a dream? Was it an accident? Was it payment on a bet?
After my kids came along I became a little worried that I would lose my sense of self. I wanted to be the best mother ever, but I knew that would mean putting myself on the priority list, too and so, I started crafting! I paint, make pottery, sew and now – create jewelry and other girly accessories~

Where do you work? What does your fantasy work space look like?
I have a sunny studio over our garage which allows me to work at home. It’s really cool to have the whole family in here while I’m working – even when I’m under the pressure of a deadline and have to put in a ton of hours, I still feel connected to what’s going on with the kids and my husband.

We all have vending horror stories but has anything really really GOOD ever happened to you?
Lots of good things! I’ve met some of my really great, close friends at craft/art shows and I’ve made soooo many contacts and created business clients through getting out in the public.

If you had to pick a superhero spokesman for Nicole Lee Designs who would it be and why?
I guess it would be Wonder Woman (I know, I know). But she was totally my favorite back in the day and damn – she would look so good in my designs!

Working on your craft can be a solitary and sometimes lonely venture. What keeps you company?
I listen to a lot of Cake and The Hush Sound and The Beastie Boys, but often it’s very quiet in here and I like that. Solitary can be good. Solitary gives you a break from all the input that bombards us all day and I think it’s really important to the creative process.

We all have dreams of money – but what would you do if you had the TIME?
Gosh, I don’t know! It would be such a luxury~ I would really like more time to just hang with my sweet husband, and a bit more time to relax with the kids. And travel. And work on new craft stuffs I’m dying to try out!

Crafting beverage of choice?
Beer. Coffee. Water. One of those three is on my desk at all times.

What is the one craft tool you can not live without?
Well, they are not in the tool family – but MAN do I love beads!
